Why does the Schitterhof so often land at the top of independent rankings? We took a closer look at the reviews – and explain what's behind them.

Let's be honest: online reviews can be all sorts of things – paid ads, one frustrated opinion or genuine first-hand reports. So today we're looking at what independent platforms say about Camping Weiss at the Red Bull Ring – and, above all, why these ratings come about.

What Do the Big Platforms Say?

The numbers speak for themselves: TripAdvisor hands out the Travelers' Choice Award and ranks the Schitterhof No.1 among the campsites in the region. The ADAC awards its top score of 10/10 in the PiNCAMP ranking. Booking.com lists an average guest rating of 8.7 – well above the average for event campsites. On top of that comes a recommendation in the independent GP Camping Guide, which specifically compares and rates event campsites.

What stands out: the reviews come from real guests who were on site during Formula 1, MotoGP or DTM. These aren't paid rankings, they're first-hand reports from people who tested the site themselves.

Why Does Camping Weiss Score So Well?

The reviews keep naming the same points: first, the proximity to the track – around 900 metres to the main entrance, a ten-minute walk. Second, the choice of categories: from BASIC (approx. 30 m², slightly sloping meadow, power optional) through PREMIUM (approx. 48 m², level, power included) and PREMIUM XL (approx. 60 m², ideal for rigs with trailers) up to PREMIUM XXL (approx. 78 m², for luxury liners up to 12 m long) or the solid Chalet made of Swiss stone pine. Everyone finds the right category for their vehicle.

Clean sanitary facilities, well-kept meadows and an organisation that actually works – that's exactly what guests expect, and exactly what the Schitterhof has delivered for over 20 years.

Third: quiet. The guaranteed night-time quiet from 23:00 is enforced by security – no party music, no night-time noise. Families appreciate that, and so does anyone who just wants to sleep after a long race day. And fourth, the sanitary facilities: modern showers, hot water around the clock, cleaned several times a day. Chalet guests also get access to four exclusive VIP bathrooms.

What's Behind the Official Colour Code WEISS?

The Red Bull Ring assigns non-transferable colour codes to its official camping partners. WEISS stands for the Schitterhof in the official traffic and safety concept. Only colour-coded sites appear on the Ring website, are integrated into the safety procedures and issue official camping stickers. Since 1999 – back then still the A1-Ring – and continuously since the 2011 reopening, the Schitterhof has been an accredited partner. For you that means: a proven booking system, clear access routes (signage with a black tent on a white background) and decades of experience with major events.

No stress, no improvising – simply a site that knows how to bring thousands of guests safely and comfortably through an event weekend. That's exactly what the reviews reflect.

What Guests Specifically Highlight

The same details come up again and again in the reviews: the central location of the sanitary buildings, the free supply and disposal (fresh water, grey water, chemical toilet – all free of charge), the free supermarket shuttle on race weekends and the on-site catering (MATTEO for breakfast and pizza, MAMAS TACOS for Mexican food). The easy online booking gets praised too: pick your event, choose a category, set the number of people and nights, pay – done. Once payment arrives, the confirmation with the QR code for check-in follows.

And one point many underestimate: dogs are welcome and cost nothing. Maximum two animals per pitch, dogs on a lead across the whole site, bring your own poo bags – that's it. For dog owners, a real plus.

You'll find more details on all categories, prices and options in our FAQ. There you can also read up on which vehicle length fits which category and how the staggered cancellation policy works – transparent, fair and with no small print.
