The most important questions

How many pitch categories are there and what are their dimensions?
Six of them, graded by vehicle length: MINI (approx. 5×4 m, 20 m², tent only), BASIC (approx. 4×7.5 m, around 30 m², power optional), PREMIUM (6×8 m, around 48 m², power included), PREMIUM XL (6×10 m, around 60 m², power included), PREMIUM XXL (6×13 m, around 78 m², power included) and the solid wooden chalet. MINI is only available for F1 and MotoGP. The deciding factor is how long your rig is.
How much does a pitch cost?
The booking form shows you the current price per category and event directly — including all options such as people, nights and power. No guesswork; the amount shown is the real one.
What are the cancellation terms?
Fairly graded, measured from the event start: 6 months or more beforehand, you get 100% back. Between 2 and 6 months beforehand, either 50% money back or, alternatively, a free rebooking as credit. Less than 2 months beforehand there's no money back, but a one-time free rebooking as credit.
How do I find the site?
Schitterhof CAMPING WEISS, Spielbergerstraße 12, 8724 Spielberg — around 900 m from the Red Bull Ring. GPS: 47.2140879, 14.7775305. During major events, the signage with the black tent on a white background leads you straight there.
Which socket do I have — and do I need an adapter as a foreign guest?
At the pitch there's the socket common in Austria and Germany, the Schuko socket (internationally "Type F", standard CEE 7/3, 230 V / 50 Hz): a round, slightly recessed socket with two round holes (19 mm apart) and two metal earthing clips at the top and bottom. Directly compatible are Type F (Schuko), Type E (France/Belgium) and the two-pin Type C (Europlug). You'll need a travel adapter "to Type F / Schuko" if you come from Great Britain/Ireland (Type G), Switzerland (Type J), Italy (Type L) or from outside Europe (e.g. USA, Type A/B). How many pitch categories are there and what are their dimensions?

Who is the MINI category meant for?
MINI is the compact tent pitch at around 20 m² (approx. 5×4 m) — tent only, no power, no car. Ideal if you arrive by bus or taxi and just need somewhere to sleep. You'll use the sanitary facilities in the general area and charge your phone at check-in. MINI is only bookable for F1 and MotoGP.
What's included in the BASIC category?
Approx. 4×7.5 m (around 30 m²) on gently sloping grass, for vehicles up to 6 m. Works for a car plus tent, a motorbike plus tent, or a small van. Sanitary facilities and food outlets are shared with everyone. You can add power (230 V / 8 A) for a surcharge if you need it.
What does PREMIUM offer?
6×8 m (around 48 m²) on level, well-kept ground, power included (230 V / 8 A, Schuko CEE 7/3). Central location, shared sanitary facilities. Enough for motorhomes up to 7.5 m.
PREMIUM XL — which vehicles and what's included?
6×10 m (around 60 m²), level, power included, close to the sanitary facilities. Made for a car-and-caravan combination or extra-long motorhomes up to 9 m, for up to 8 people.
PREMIUM XXL — what's the maximum?
6×13 m (around 78 m²), level, power included — the largest space on offer. For luxury liners and particularly long or heavy motorhomes up to 12 m. Best location, right next to the sanitary facilities and food outlets, for up to 10 people.
What do I get in the wooden chalet?
A solid wooden chalet with two bunk beds — four sleeping spaces, interior dimensions approx. 2.20×2.80 m. The beds are made from stone pine (Schlafkiefer) wood and are EN 747 compliant. Power (230 V / 8 A), five Schuko sockets, two USB ports, interior lighting. You don't need your own vehicle. On top of that, the four VIP bathrooms reserved exclusively for chalet guests and an included parking space (approx. 100 m away).
Which category suits my vehicle?
Sorted by length: up to 6 m → BASIC, up to 7.5 m → PREMIUM, up to 9 m or car plus caravan → PREMIUM XL, up to 12 m or luxury liner → PREMIUM XXL. Without your own vehicle — for example arriving by bus or taxi — you'll take MINI (tent only) or the chalet.
How many people are allowed per pitch?
BASIC up to 6, PREMIUM and PREMIUM XL up to 8, PREMIUM XXL up to 10, chalet up to 4 people.
What power output and plug type do I have at the pitch?
Consistently 230 V / 8 A via Schuko CEE 7/3. With PREMIUM, PREMIUM XL, PREMIUM XXL and in the chalet, power is included; with BASIC it's optional. Bring a splash-proof extension cable — around 40 m, at least 25 m.
Can I bring my own generator?
No, external generators stay at home — peace and quiet and clean air matter to us. Built-in heaters and air conditioning in your motorhome, on the other hand, are no problem.
Is there WiFi or mobile reception?
We don't provide our own WiFi. Mobile reception is stable across the whole site — more than enough to stream the onboard cameras.
Are there accessible pitches or sanitary facilities?
We currently don't have specially wheelchair-accessible sanitary facilities. If you have special requirements, get in touch beforehand at info@schitterhof.at — we'll find the best solution together.
Are the pitches shaded or paved?
Mostly open, sunny grass pitches; a few edge pitches are partly shaded. If it gets wet, we gravel and mark the access routes.
Prices & Booking (13)
How much does a pitch cost?
The booking form shows you the current price per category and event directly — including all options such as people, nights and power. No guesswork; the amount shown is the real one.
Do you charge per night or per event?
The base price applies to the event weekend with a fixed number of included nights. Additional people, extra nights and options are added automatically by the form.
Is there a minimum stay?
Yes, 1 to 2 nights depending on the event. You can leave earlier at any time — but unused nights are not refunded.
Do children cost extra?
There's no pitch surcharge for children, and under-15s are also exempt from the local tax. You still have to register them — that's required by the registration law.
Do I pay for my dog?
No, dogs travel free of charge, no pet surcharge. The rules for them are in the "Pets" section.
How does a booking work?
Everything online: choose the event, set the category, adjust people, nights and options, enter your details, pay. Once the payment arrives, the confirmation email with invoice and your QR code for check-in is sent automatically. Only this confirmation makes the booking binding.
What payment methods are available?
The usual online methods: SEPA transfer, credit card (Visa, Mastercard) and others the form offers you. With SEPA it can take a few days for the payment to arrive.
Can I pay a deposit or do I have to pay everything up front?
There's no deposit — the booking becomes binding with full payment.
How do I know the payment worked?
You automatically receive a confirmation email with invoice. If nothing arrives within 48 hours, drop us a quick note at info@schitterhof.at.
Can I book by phone?
Binding reservations are only possible online. We're happy to answer questions by phone or email — but a call alone is not yet a booking.
Will a group get pitches next to each other?
Yes. Group bookings run online, and the system arranges several pitches together to match. If part of the group arrives earlier, we keep the neighbouring pitch free until the second arrival. Special requests to info@schitterhof.at.
Are there early-bird or group discounts?
From time to time there are early-bird promotions. Group discounts are available on request, but only when arriving together under one booking number. Just ask at info@schitterhof.at.
Is there a waiting list when everything is sold out?
Yes. We assign pitches that become free in order. Sign up by email at info@schitterhof.at.
Cancellation & Rebooking (5)
What are the cancellation terms?
Fairly graded, measured from the event start: 6 months or more beforehand, you get 100% back. Between 2 and 6 months beforehand, either 50% money back or, alternatively, a free rebooking as credit. Less than 2 months beforehand there's no money back, but a one-time free rebooking as credit.
How do I submit a cancellation?
Under "My Booking" you start a cancellation request with your booking number and email. The refundable amount is shown to you immediately, and you can add a reason. We review it, approve it and confirm by email.
Can I change or upgrade my booking later?
Yes. Under "My Booking" you can add people or nights yourself and switch to a larger category, if available. What you've already paid is credited. Reducing is only possible via a cancellation request or directly with us.
What happens if the event is postponed or cancelled?
If the organiser postpones, your booking automatically moves to the replacement date. If it's cancelled outright, you get the full amount back.
Can I add children afterwards?
Yes, free of charge. Children are only recorded for registration purposes and cost no surcharge.
Arrival & Check-in (11)
How do I find the site?

Which day can I arrive?
The bookable arrival and departure days are shown in the booking calendar (event week Tuesday to Monday). Arriving later than booked is possible — unused nights are not refunded.
When is check-in open?
Usually 08:00–22:00, and until 23:00 on the main arrival day. The exact times per event are in your booking confirmation. Check-in on Saturday or Sunday only with prior notice at info@schitterhof.at.
What if I arrive outside check-in hours?
Then check-in isn't possible. You'll spend the night in the waiting car park right in front of the check-in area and check in the next morning from 08:00.
What do I need at check-in?
Just your QR code from the confirmation email — on your phone is completely fine. Check-in works as a drive-in right at your pitch. You'll receive your wristband, which you wear visibly; it's your access card for the site.
Is there a waiting car park if I'm too early?
Yes, right in front of the check-in area. Waiting until it opens costs nothing.
Can I arrive by public transport?
Yes. There's a bus stop right in front of the camping area, and Knittelfeld station is around 4 km away. From the site it's only 900 m on foot to the Ring anyway — you don't need a shuttle for that.
Are there access closures during the events?
During Formula 1, MotoGP and AirPower there can be temporary closures and diversions. For booked guests, however, access to the site is always open — just follow the white signs with the tent symbol.
How far is it to the entrance and the grandstands?
To the main entrance it's around 900 m on a lit, asphalted pedestrian and cycle path — a good 10 minutes on foot, about 2 by bike. To the grandstands it's around 10 to 30 minutes depending on location (T1–T9).
Is there a speed limit on the site?
Yes — walking pace, maximum 10 km/h across the entire site. The fast laps are reserved for the Ring.
Where do I find my invoice and my access sticker?
You'll find both around “My Booking”. Your invoice: all invoice details are already in your booking confirmation email; you can also download the official PDF invoice yourself at any time – log in under “My Booking” with your booking number and email address and click “View & download invoice”. If you need an invoice with a company or different billing address, simply enter it there beforehand. Your access sticker: you need it to get onto the site at the organiser's checkpoint. We only receive the sticker artwork from the Red Bull Ring a few weeks before the event – until then your confirmation shows “not available yet”. As soon as it's ready, you'll automatically get your personal sticker with your arrival email (1–2 weeks before the event) and can also download and print it anytime under “My Booking”.
Departure & Traffic (6)
Do I have to leave early on race day?
No, you can leave in a relaxed manner after the race — nobody chases you off beforehand. From experience, our guests roll out around an hour after the race ends, so well before the official release.
Are there fixed check-out times?
Departure on Monday is flexible, ideally by around 13:00. A formal check-out is only needed for chalet guests; on the pitch, a cleanly left space with tidily placed rubbish bags is enough.
How do I avoid the departure jam?
The S36 is only around 800 m away (Zeltweg Ost on-ramp) — that noticeably eases the departure. A quick departure after the main race is possible, and on Monday you usually roll away relaxed.
What if it rains or is muddy when I leave?
If the ground is wet, a towing vehicle is on standby. You'll get help via the check-out team or at +43 670 5090460.
Can I dispose of waste before I leave?
Yes. On Monday, rubbish and chemical-toilet disposal run all day, and fresh water is available at the collection points.
How do I get a copy of the invoice or a proof of attendance?
You can download your invoice yourself at any time: open the “My Booking” page via the link in your confirmation email – there you’ll find “View/download invoice”. For an attendance confirmation, just send us a short message with your booking number to info@schitterhof.at.
Power & E-Mobility (7)

Can I charge my electric car at the pitch?
No. Charging via the pitch connection is off-limits for safety reasons — the 8 A are intended for household appliances, not vehicles. Please use a public charging station.
Where is the nearest public charging station?
At the RingRast filling station, around 500 m away. Billing there works via the usual charging apps and cards (e.g. SMATRICS, EnBW, Shell Recharge).
And my e-bike?
You can charge that at the normal Schuko socket at the pitch — no problem.
How much power does my connection deliver?
Each connection provides 230 V / 8 A — so at most around 1.8 kW at a time. Please only use CE-certified, splash-proof cables and adapters.
Which cable reel should I buy?
A standard Austrian or German reel with Schuko (Type F): a Schuko plug (Type F) on the supply cable, Schuko sockets (Type F, CEE 7/3) on the reel — exactly our system at the pitch. Length around 40 m (at least 25 m). For outdoor use, be sure to get a splash-proof outdoor reel (IP44) with a rubber cable (H07RN-F) and at least 1.5 mm² cross-section. Important: unroll the cable completely during use, otherwise the coiled reel overheats. Each connection provides a maximum of 8 A (around 1.8 kW).
What do I need to watch out for with the cables?
Lay cables so no one trips, meaning secure or cover them. We recommend around 40 m length and IP44 connections. Always unroll cable reels completely.
Water & Sanitary Facilities (7)
How is the water supply arranged?
Top-quality drinking water from the public network. You'll find central tap points in the camping areas, especially at check-in and at the sanitary buildings. Filling up with fresh water is free. There's no direct connection at the pitch.
Do fresh water, grey water or the chemical toilet cost anything?
No — supply and disposal are free with us: filling up fresh water, emptying grey water and emptying the chemical toilet cost nothing. The stations are in the check-in area.
How are the sanitary facilities equipped?
Centrally located, separated for women and men, with toilets, showers, washbasins and mirrors. Hot water is available around the clock — brief breaks only during cleaning.
Do chalet guests have their own bathrooms?
Yes, four VIP bathrooms exclusively for chalet guests, modern, with shower, washbasin and toilet. Access via the chalet wristband.
How often are the sanitary facilities cleaned?
On event days several times a day — morning, midday, evening — and additionally at peak times.
How does waste disposal work?
At check-in you receive coloured bags (yellow for plastic and cans, blue for general waste). Place full bags at your pitch — the team collects them. Containers for paper, glass and the like are located by the sanitary areas.
Are there emptying stations for motorhomes and chemical toilets?
Yes, in the check-in area, usable daily from 08:00–22:00. Emptying grey water and emptying the chemical toilet are free.
Food & Shopping (6)
Is there food directly on site?
Yes, on event days daily from around 07:00 to 23:00. Breakfast from 07:00, hot food from 16:00. Two stations: MATTEO (breakfast, pizza & pasta in the evening) and MAMAS TACOS (tacos, burritos).
Am I allowed to grill?
Gas and electric grills in suitable devices are allowed. Charcoal grills, open fire, campfires and fire bowls are not permitted for fire-safety reasons.
Where can I shop nearby?
For immediate needs there's the RingRast filling station around 500 m away. Full supermarkets are in Zeltweg and Knittelfeld, a few minutes' drive away.
Are there vegetarian or vegan options?
Vegetarian dishes are available on request.
How do I pay at the food outlets?
Cash or card (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro), with no minimum amount.
Are there water refill stations and ice?
There are free water refill stations at the sanitary buildings. You can get ice cubes at MATTEO.
Pets (5)
Are dogs allowed and do they cost anything?
Dogs are welcome and free, no surcharge. They must be supervised at all times and leave other guests in peace.
What rules apply to dogs?
Leashes are required across the entire site. Quiet hours from 23:00 to 07:00 apply to four-legged friends too. A maximum of two animals per pitch, with no breed or size restriction.
Are there poop bags or exercise areas?
Please bring your own poop bags and dispose of the leftovers properly. For walkies there are lovely paths around the site, such as the field track along the Moosweg.
Are dogs allowed in the sanitary facilities or the food outlets?
No animals are allowed in sanitary rooms and the indoor food area. On a leash, though, dogs are welcome in the outdoor area of the food outlets.
Do I need to carry a vaccination record and chip data?
You should carry a vaccination record and chip data, especially when arriving from abroad.
Safety & Quiet (6)
How do you ensure quiet?
Guaranteed quiet hours from 23:00. The site is lit and monitored by security at night — loud party music has no place here. That's exactly why families and everyone who wants to recover after race day come to us.
How is security organised?
During the events, a professional security team is on site around the clock. At night the site is lit, and only registered guests get in.
Is the site also suitable for women travelling alone?
Yes. A well-lit site, night-time security and the consistent quiet hours from 23:00 ensure a calm, safe atmosphere.
What do I do in an emergency?
Stay calm, get people to safety and immediately notify security or the fire brigade. Assembly points are marked at the entrance and by the sanitary building. Emergency number during the events: +43 670 5090460.
What is forbidden?
Fireworks and pyrotechnics, weapons, glass bottles, flammable liquids and open fire.
What rules apply to alcohol and smoking?
Moderate alcohol consumption is fine. Smoking is only outdoors, not in sanitary or food areas. Austrian law applies for the protection of minors.
Surroundings & Leisure (4)
What does the region offer beyond the races?
Popular spots are the Aqualux thermal spa in Fohnsdorf, the Sachendorf riding club and the Murtal golf club.
Are there hiking and cycling paths directly from the site?
Yes. The Mur cycle path R2 is reached in around 10 minutes, and popular e-bike tours head towards Seckau or Judenburg. The flat loop Schitterhof–Red Bull Ring–Spielberg takes about 45 minutes and is family-friendly.
Where can you swim nearby?
At Zechnerteich near Knittelfeld (around 6 km) or at the Aqualux thermal spa in Fohnsdorf.
Are there playgrounds nearby?
A public playground is around 600 m away in the centre of Spielberg. During major events at the Red Bull Ring there are additional children's programmes.
Official Status (CAMPING WEISS) (3)
What does the WEISS colour code mean?
The Red Bull Ring assigns non-transferable colour codes to its official camping partners. "WEISS" (white) stands for the Schitterhof in the official traffic and safety concept. Only officially colour-coded sites appear on the Red Bull Ring website, are integrated into the security procedures, and issue official camping stickers.
Since when has the Schitterhof been an official partner?
Since 1999, back then still the A1-Ring, and continuously since the reopening as the Red Bull Ring in 2011. For you that means: a proven, secure booking system, official camping stickers and decades of routine with major events.
What sets the Schitterhof apart from other sites at the Ring?
An official event campsite with the WEISS colour code, only 900 m from the track, modern sanitary facilities, well-kept grass areas, good food — and a clear focus on quiet, cleanliness and comfort.
