Formula 1 Austria 2027 officially scheduled for July – summer date at Red Bull Ring

It's now official – the FIA has confirmed the 2027 Formula 1 calendar, and the Austrian Grand Prix is moving to July for the first time in years. What does that mean for you as a fan? Better weather, longer days and a new spot in the season schedule.

The FIA has published the provisional race calendar for the 2027 season – and the Austrian GP at the Red Bull Ring gets a new slot in the schedule. After many years in June, the race shifts to July in 2027. The exact weekend will be finalised in the coming months, but the month is set: high summer in Steiermark.

The FIA has restructured the calendar to optimise logistical flows and better distribute European double-headers. The Red Bull Ring benefits from a later slot – statistically, that means more stable weather, lower rain risk and longer days with evening light stretching further. For you as a fan, that means: more relaxed travel in sunshine, less mud risk and more comfortable temperatures in the grandstands and at the campsite.

The major motorsport publications (*Motorsport-Total*, *Auto Motor und Sport*, *Speedweek*) have already commented on the switch – consensus: the July date makes the Ring more attractive to international fans because it fits better into the holiday planning of many markets. It's also a win for local tourism: Steiermark shows its best side in July.

The Murtal sits at around 700 metres elevation and enjoys stable high-summer weather in July. Average daytime highs are a comfortable 24°C, dropping to around 13°C at night – ideal for sleeping in a tent or motorhome. Thunderstorms are possible in July but usually brief and localised; sunshine averages seven to eight hours per day.

Compared to the previous June date, the risk of multi-day rain periods drops significantly. Anyone who's been to the Ring in June knows those soggy weekends – in July, the grass is typically dry and firm. Still, pack a light rain jacket and sun cream, and you'll be covered for everything.

The July slot falls right in the middle of summer holidays for many regions. In Austria, all states have holidays simultaneously (typically early July to early September), so the GP sits squarely in the holiday window. In Germany, it depends on the state – Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg often don't start until late July/early August, while North Rhine-Westphalia and many northern states begin in mid-to-late June. Depending on the exact race week, you'll catch either the start or the peak of the holidays.

It gets particularly interesting for fans from the Netherlands: summer holidays in Holland are staggered by region (North, Central, South) and typically run from mid-July to late August. If the GP falls in the second or third week of July, it hits a large chunk of Dutch holiday time – and that's likely to make the orange grandstand even more packed. The Dutch Army has turned the Ring into a fortress in recent years; a holiday date makes the journey from the Netherlands even easier.

Early booking pays off more than ever. A date during school holidays means many families and international fans can travel more flexibly – demand will be correspondingly high. Schitterhof will likely open bookings for 2027 in early 2026; book quickly and you'll secure the best choice of pitches with plenty of time to plan your journey.
