Drinks & Food at Red Bull Ring: What You're Allowed to Bring

Many campers ask us: What drinks and food am I actually allowed to take onto the race grounds? Good news: with common sense and a few clear rules, you'll be well prepared.

The short answer: less than many hope — but everything essential is covered. The Red Bull Ring has clear safety regulations about what you can bring onto the grounds. Let's be honest, no one wants to be caught out at the entrance and have to haul half their gear back to the camper. So here's what you need to know.

You're allowed a maximum of 0.5 litres of liquid per person — but only in soft PET bottles or standard tetrapaks. Small aluminium cans are also permitted. Important: the bottle must be soft (squeezable); hard PET bottles aren't allowed. Glass bottles are banned completely, as are metal containers of any kind — this explicitly includes thermos flasks, stainless steel drinks bottles and the like.

Water isn't a problem at the venue: you can fill up free drinking water at the official refill stations. Best bet? Pack an empty soft PET bottle — just fill it up on site.

Yes, small snacks for personal use are allowed. Think sandwiches, cereal bars, fruit or a few biscuits — anything you can carry in a normal bag and eat yourself. What's not allowed: larger quantities beyond your personal daily needs, or food that's clearly intended for resale.

Short answer: they stay at the campsite. Cool boxes, cool bags, camping stoves and larger food containers aren't allowed into the race venue. That also applies to bulky picnic baskets or large thermal containers. You can use everything at your pitch, of course — we explicitly allow grilling with gas or electric grills, for example (charcoal grills and open fires are banned for fire safety reasons).

Besides glass and metal, spray cans (e.g. deodorant, hairspray) aren't permitted at the venue either. Best not to pack them in the bag you're taking to the track. At the campsite it's not an issue — you can freshen up there in peace before heading off.

The rules might sound strict, but there's a clear reason: safety and order with over 200,000 visitors. Glass can shatter, metal containers can be misused as projectiles, and large cool boxes block emergency exits. Red Bull Ring is an international major event — standards are high, and entrance checks are correspondingly thorough.

There are checks at the entrance. You'll have to leave banned items at the campsite or hand them over on the spot — you won't get them back. Save yourself the hassle: only pack what's allowed, then you'll get through the checks quickly and can focus on what matters.

Use Schitterhof as your base. Top up with free fresh water in the morning, pack your permitted 0.5-litre PET bottle and grab a few snacks.
